Emraan Hashmi on Monday declares on his Instagram page that his son is now cancer-free. Emraan’s son Ayaan was diagnosed with the deadly disease when he was just four years old. He talks about his journey along with his wife through the hardship of their son’s illness. To this Emraan said, “Today, 5 years after his diagnosis, Ayaan has been declared cancer-free. It has been quite a journey. Thank you for all your prayers and wishes. Love and prayers for all the cancer fighters out there, hope and belief goes a long way. You can win this battle,”
In the year 2014, Ayaan was diagnosed with rare cancer in his kidney. Emraan said he and his wife Parveen Sahani could not anticipate the danger of the disease before diagnosis. He further said that being the parents they could not understand that their son was suffering from a deadly disease as there was no fever or other ailments that came along with it. They could notice a tumor which was slowly developing in his belly which parents thought is normal due to weight gain. Emraan says he feels bad for misunderstanding the tumor as belly fat.
3 years back in an event on parenthood Emraan said “I think women are emotionally much stronger. When we came to know that our child had cancer, my wife did not cry while I burst into tears. Even during his whole treatment, I had to come back occasionally for shooting but she was there throughout and I don’t know how she managed to be so brave, hats off to her”.
During these years of struggle, while seeing his only son in pain, Emraan co-written a book named, “The Kiss of Life: How a Superhero and My Son Defeated Cancer” with Bilal Siddiqi. In his book, he has depicted his story as a father and how he deals with this situation along with his family. He wrote about the ups and downs, happiness and sorrow, love and care that came hand in hand with the deadly disease. It narrates the physical pain of the child who was then only 3 years and 10 months old and the trauma which the parents were going throughout the years of diagnosis and treatment.
Emraan said he has written this book as an inspiration to his child and to others suffering from this disease. ‘We scripted a fairytale around his favorite superheroes, Iron Man and Batman, fictionalizing the illness and inspiring him to fight back,’ he pens his experience when they visited Toronto for treatment where the kids in the child psychology department were taught to fight not only a mythical bad man but the big C.
Emraan Hashmi will be seen in “Why Cheat India” his next movie releasing on this Friday. The story is inspired by several scam incidents in the education system of India.
