MS Dhoni breaks his silence on “The Roar of Lions” thus making the Docu-Drama unique
The Roar of Lions, A docu-drama by Kabir Khan on IPL took a storm at the internet on its release on 20th of March. It revolves around the IPL team Chennai Super Kings which was accused of match-fixing. The captain of the team who also happened to be the capital of Indian cricket team that time opened up and talked about the rumors of corruption in the team and how he dealt with it and came out of the situation.
Through his film, Khan reminded everyone how Dhoni came upfront and spoke about the situation when his own team was accused of match fixing. The filmmaker told to IANS, “We have never seen Dhoni (Mahendra Singh Dhoni) opening up and talking about what he went through when the team got involved in the match fixing allegations and was banned for two years.”
“During that time, Dhoni was completely silent. Nobody knows how he dealt with the whole situation internally. I think that conversation makes the show different, makes it unique,” he mentioned, adding that corruption exists in every field. Kabir said, “I think there is corruption in every profession… a grey area exists in every field, be it cricket, corporate, cinema…it is ultimately dependent on how an individual holds himself or herself.”
Kabir Khan also depicts how Chennai Super Kings were mocked by the audience as ‘Chennai Senior Kings’, ‘buddhe ki fauj’ just because the majority of team members were above the age of 30. Kabir further said that the only answer were given when the team won the IPL in 2018 and their victory was enough to shut mouths, and the story has really inspired Kabir.
This Docu-dram is not the first venture of Kabir into Indian Cricket team, but he has been shooting a film names 83 which depicts Kapil Dev and his journey towards wining the World Cup for Team India. The film sees Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev and Kabir Khan has worked in every minute details of the film. The film has also seen actors like Saqib Saleem, Hardy Sandhu, Aamy Virk, Pankaj Tripathi, Vijay Verma, Jiiva, Tahir Raj Bhasin and many others who will be shown as a team who played the 1983 Cricket world cup under the captaincy of Kapil Dev and witnessed victory for the first time in Indian hisotry.
